My neighbor saw me meal prepping and asked if I was 'okay'...

I was in my kitchen last Sunday portioning out chicken and rice for the week, and my neighbor Linda knocked on the door to borrow some milk. She saw all those little containers lined up on my counter and her face went all concerned. She asked if I was 'going through something' or if I was 'okay enough to talk about it.' I laughed and told her nope, I'm just trying to stick to my budget and not blow $40 a week on takeout. She didn't really get it, but she did take a container of my extra green beans when she left. It was such a weird moment, but it reminded me that not everyone sees meal prepping as a win. Has anyone else had a friend or neighbor treat a budgeting habit like it's some kind of crisis?

Probably the funniest part of this whole thing is neighbors acting like organization is a red flag. If I saw someone with thirty containers of rice and beans I'd assume they were training for a marathon or saving for a house, not having a breakdown. My own neighbor once saw my spreadsheet for tracking grocery spending and asked if I was "okay." I told her it was cheaper than therapy and she just nodded real slow. We don't talk about my spreadsheets anymore.

Preach. Spreadsheets keep me sane too.
