PSA: I hit $500 in my 'forgot about it' account and it felt better than a big bonus
I know everyone talks about saving for a big goal, like a vacation or a down payment. But I set up a small auto transfer of $25 a week to a savings account I never check. I literally named it 'forgot about it' in my online banking. I just checked it for the first time in almost a year, and it had $512. That's not a lot of money, but it felt like free money I didn't have to work for. It mattered because it wasn't for anything specific, so it felt like pure security. It's not tied to a bill or a plan, it's just there. It made me realize that sometimes the small, mindless wins are better than the stressful, big ones. Has anyone else found a small, automatic system that surprised them?

Set up a second roundup account with my main bank. Every time I use my debit card, it rounds up to the nearest dollar and puts the change in savings. I mean, it's literally pennies most of the time, so you never feel it. Checked it after six months and it was over $200 just from buying coffee and groceries. It's the best kind of boring money.

Yeah, because what I really need is for my bank to nickel and dime me even harder. Sounds like a fancy way to feel okay about all the overpriced coffee I'm buying, @gray_gibson. They're just tricking you into saving the money you're already wasting. I'd rather just not buy the five dollar latte in the first place, then I'd have the whole dollar.
