PSA: my neighbor's $9 rice cooker hack got me under budget for 5 weeks straight
I was grilling in my driveway in Phoenix when my neighbor Rosa walked over and saw me tossing out half a bag of wilted spinach. She told me her trick from growing up in El Paso, cook a big pot of rice on Sunday, then throw in whatever veggies are about to go bad and portion it out for lunches. I tried it 5 weeks ago and my grocery bill went from $140 a week to around $75, mostly since I stopped buying lunch out. She also said to freeze the extra in muffin tins, which sounds weird but works great. Does anyone else have a cheap base food they build the whole week around?
