Switched to a cash envelope system for groceries three months ago

We were spending about $800 a month on food for our family of four, but last month we only spent $550. The main change was taking out the cash at the start of the week and sticking to that amount, no more card swipes for extras. Has anyone else had a big drop in spending after trying something similar?

Totally agree with @grace565, cash makes you feel the spend so you stop the little extras.

Always thought cash was outdated, but seeing the numbers like that makes a real difference.
