Dropped $130 on a fancy journaling pen set, the one free pen won

I bought a 12 pack of those expensive fineliners off Amazon last month because everyone raves about them, and half of them dried out within 2 weeks. The cheap Bic pen I grabbed from my junk drawer has outlasted them all and writes smoother on my dot grid. Has anyone else shelled out for 'premium' journaling tools and ended up going back to the basics, or am I the only sucker here?

I used to be a "you get what you pay for" believer with pens, but your post about the free Bic outlasting the fancy set totally flipped my thinking. Now I'm honestly side-eyeing my own drawer full of overpriced markers, what's the most ridiculous premium tool you've gone back to basic on?
