I called index tabs "training wheels" until my March spread took me 4 hours to find anything in
For about two years I refused to put index tabs in my bullet journal. I told myself finding stuff by flipping was fine and tabs looked messy, and I definitely said the phrase "training wheels" to a friend in line at a coffee shop in Providence back in January. Then March hit and I was trying to find one client call note I had written down three days before, and I flipped through 40 pages of daily logs four separate times before I found it. I timed the whole thing out of spite and it took me 11 minutes to find one line. I finally stuck a cheap pack of tabs on the edge for my collections, and the same search now takes about 20 seconds. I still feel a little silly about how hard I dug in on this, mostly because the tabs were like $4 and I spent way more than that on coffee while I was being stubborn about it. Usually I get attached to a system for the ritual of it, not because it works better, so now I check whether I'm defending a habit or an actual result. Do you tab your pages, or am I the last one who had to get dragged into it?
