I finally got my monthly layout to stick after 3 years of trying

I was sitting at my kitchen table last Sunday trying to plan out April when I realized my usual weekly boxes just weren't working. I switched to a simple vertical layout with only the dates and no extra decorations, and for the first time I actually filled in every day. Has anyone else found that a plain layout works better than a fancy one?

Minimal always wins. Fancy layouts just stress me out more.

My sister sent me a link to a study that said people who kept their planner layouts understated were 40% more likely to keep up with them past the first month. I guess all that pressure to make it Instagram-worthy just kills the habit eventually. I switched to a plain notebook with just a line down the middle for morning and evening tasks, and it finally stuck for me too. Something about not having to fill in pretty boxes just makes it feel less like a chore.
