I used to think my bullet journal had to be a perfect art project, but my friend in Chicago said 'it's a tool, not a trophy' and that finally clicked for me.

Now I just use a simple black pen and a ruler, and my productivity has actually gone UP because I'm not spending 3 hours on a weekly spread anymore.

Reminds me of how fancy kitchens can make people cook less. Did your friend's advice help you stop overthinking other things too?

Yeah that kitchen thing is so true, like the pressure to make something perfect kills the fun. @christopher151 did your friend's simple advice actually change how you handle other stuff, like at work or in relationships, or was it just a one-time fix for cooking? I'm trying to figure out if that mindset can really spread to other parts of life or if we all need a different trick for each thing we overthink.

Did your friend also tell you that a messy fridge means a happier cook? Because I swear, once I stopped trying to keep my kitchen looking like a magazine cover, I actually started making real food again. It's the same deal with that bullet journal mindset - the second you stop trying to impress people who aren't even watching, everything gets easier. I started applying it to my morning routine too, like just drinking coffee out of a plain mug instead of trying to make it look fancy for Instagram. Now I'm way more chill about showing up late to stuff because who cares if my hair isn't perfect.
