My cat knocked my whole monthly spread into the sink

Yesterday morning I was filling in my meal tracker for the month and had my journal sitting right next to the kitchen sink. My cat Luna decided to jump up and land directly on the open page, which sent the journal sliding straight into a half-full bowl of water. It soaked through the entire monthly log, all 28 days, and the ink smeared into this weird rainbow mess. I tried blotting it with paper towels but that just made the paper wrinkle and stick together. Now I have to redo the whole month spread on a new page, and I'm honestly thinking about using one of those waterproof notebook covers. Has anyone else had a pet wreck their journal setup, and how did you keep it from happening again?

Three weeks ago my dog Radar did the exact same thing, he stepped right on my habit tracker and then knocked my whole water glass over trying to get to the window. The pages turned into this crinkly, stuck-together mess that looked like a wet paper mache project gone wrong. I lost three days of workout logs and my whole grocery list for the week got smeared into a purple blob. Now I keep my journal in a drawer when I'm not writing in it and I only fill it out at my desk with a closed water bottle. It sucks redoing everything but at least Luna caught you before you got too far into the month, for me it was the first week and I still had to copy like six pages of notes.

@oscarwright nailed it with the drawer idea, that's what I started doing after my dog Bear did the same thing to my meal plan. Keep a dedicated spot away from any water sources and only pull the journal out when you're actively writing in it. A waterproof cover helps too, but honestly the habit change is what actually stops it from happening again.
