My friend said to skip the fancy yearly setup and just start writing
She told me this in January when I was stuck trying to draw a perfect future log. I spent two hours on it, messed up the spacing, and almost quit. So I just opened to a blank page and wrote down three things I needed to do that day. It felt so much easier. Now my book is actually getting used. Has anyone else had a friend give you simple advice that actually worked?

Totally get that. Read a blog post once about "productive friction," how making the first step too fancy stops you from starting. Your three things on a blank page is the perfect fix for that.

Friction is a good way to put it... that first step can feel like you're trying to push a car up a hill. Once you get past that initial hump, the rest of it just sorta rolls along on its own. That blank page is like a wall, and anything you put on it is a crack in it. The size or quality of that crack doesn't matter, just that you made one.
