My neighbor's comment about my journal made me stop using a ruler
I was setting up my weekly spread on the porch last week, and my neighbor saw me carefully drawing lines with a ruler. She said, 'You know, the little wobbles in your handwriting are what make it yours.' I'd never thought about it that way before, always trying for perfect straight lines. Now I just freehand my boxes and it feels way more relaxed and personal. Has anyone else ditched a tool that was actually holding them back?

Nah, my ruler is my best friend.

Robin777, I get that. For a long time I felt the same way, that the ruler was a non-negotiable part of the process. But after a while, I realized I was spending more time setting up the "perfect" page than actually writing in it. Letting go of that tool felt like permission to just use the journal, not just decorate it.
