Warning: watercolor in a traveler's notebook took me 6 hours to dry

I tried to use watercolor in my midori style traveler's notebook for a monthly spread last Saturday. Thought it would be fine since I just used a tiny brush with minimal water but the paper completely buckled and warped. Waited an hour and it was still damp so I set it under a fan for another 2 hours. Then I touched it and smudged a whole corner I already painted. Ended up having to rip out the page and start over with dry media like markers. Took me about 6 hours total to get the spread done between drying time and redoing everything. Does anyone else mess with wet media in bound notebooks or just stick to fineliners and pens for your journals?

Ngl I had to read that twice. Six hours? Honestly that's wild to me. I have never had watercolor take that long even with heavy washes on thick paper. You must have been using some super wet paint or maybe the paper was too thin for that. Tbh I probably would have given up after hour three and just called it a loss. But ripping out the page is rough when you already put work into it.

Tried the same thing once. Regretted it immediately. Total disaster.
