That $5 corkboard from a garage sale turned out to be vintage cork from the 70s

Grabbed it last Saturday from some random house in Elmwood. Lady wanted $10 but I talked her down. Took it home and my buddy who collects mid-century stuff said the frame is solid walnut. I was just looking for something to pin takeout menus on. Has anyone else stumbled onto something way better than you expected from a bulletin board find?

That "solid walnut" frame your buddy mentioned is actually probably black walnut or maybe even stained ash. Real walnut from the 70s was used a lot but it's not as common as people think. Still a good find either way.

I always thought all old walnut was the real deal, but this makes way more sense now.
