That flyer for the handyman on my laundromat board was a scam
I saw this flyer for a guy named Mike who fixes appliances for cheap, pinned up at the corner of 5th and Oak. Called him last month because my washer was leaking, and he showed up late, charged me $80, and made it worse. Then I realized the phone number on the flyer was changed with a sharpie, and my neighbor said she got ghosted by him too. Has anyone else actually gotten good work from those bulletin board dudes or am I just unlucky?

Oh man, that's rough. Your story about Mike sounds like the time I hired a "plumber" from a corkboard at the grocery store to fix my toilet. Said he could do it for $50 flat. Showed up three hours late, spent ten minutes under the tank, then told me the whole thing needed replacing for $400. I said no thanks, and my bathroom smelled like a swamp for two weeks after. Paying $80 to make the problem worse is a special kind of bad luck, right? At least we're both out here learning these lessons the hard way.

Read something the other day about how most people don't realize that cheap fixes often turn into expensive problems down the line. Sounds like you found that out the hard way too. Live and learn I guess.
