Used to think community boards were dead till I found one at the laundromat
I always figured cork boards were just for old flyers nobody reads. Then last thursday at the Spin & Suds on 5th Ave I spotted a board completely packed with stuff. Someone posted a hand written note offering free tomato starts from their garden and 3 people had written "took 2" next to it. There was also a flyer for a neighborhood watch meeting that had QR codes and a map drawn by hand. Now I check every board I pass and I even left a note offering to trade my extra basil plants for someone's extra zinnia seeds. Has anyone else found a really active board in your area?

The community center board near me had a similar thing with someone offering free iris bulbs and people left little thank you notes in return. I ended up trading my extra chard seeds for a jar of homemade pickles through a board at the hardware store.

Huh, funny you mention the tomato starts thing because I literally did the same thing with my mint plants last spring. I stuck a note on the board at the community center near my place saying "free mint, it took over my whole garden, please take some" and someone actually left me a bag of fresh dill in return with a sticky note saying "thanks neighbor." The board there is a mess of old yoga class flyers and lost cat photos but someone also posted a whole zine about local composting spots that someone clearly spent time on. I'm now weirdly obsessed with checking that board every time I go to drop off my recycling.
