Just realized my rice cooker makes better toast than my toaster, and I am not okay with it
So last Tuesday I had two pieces of sourdough left and a toaster that has been acting up for weeks. The left slot burns one side to a black brick and the right slot barely warms the bread. I stood in my kitchen at 6am and had to pick between two bad plans: use the toaster and eat charcoal, or try the rice cooker on the warm setting like some kind of lunatic. I went with the rice cooker because my mom swears by it, and honestly it came out pretty decent, soft with a little brown on the bottom. Then I got curious and left a slice in there for 10 minutes while I checked emails, and it came out looking like a hockey puck with a tan. My smoke alarm went off twice that morning and my neighbor in 4B banged on the wall. I have now burned toast in a toaster, a rice cooker, and once on a cast iron pan in the same week. Has anyone else found a weird appliance that toasts bread better than the thing built for it? I need to know if I should just give up and buy the $9 toaster from the corner store.
