Unpopular take: my brown sugar cinnamon toast disaster last Tuesday was NOT salvageable and I'm tired of pretending otherwise
I was at my apartment in Denver last Tuesday trying to make cinnamon toast under the broiler, walked away for 90 seconds to grab my phone, and came back to what looked like charcoal hockey pucks. Everyone in this community loves the 'scrape it off and eat it anyway' bit, but I tossed all 4 slices in the trash and made a bowl of cereal instead, because pretending burnt sugar tastes fine is a lie we all tell. Does anyone else here just give up when it's clearly a loss, or am I the only one who thinks some kitchen fails don't deserve a redemption arc?
Baking fails like that actually change the food at a chemical level, not just a flavor one. Once sugar burns past a certain point it turns into stuff your body can't really process and it tastes bitter no matter what you do to it. Scraping the top off a burnt piece of bread just leaves you with sad bread and a mouthful of ash particles you can't even see. Throwing it out and making cereal was the smart move, and honestly it saved you from the gross burps you'd get an hour later from eating that junk. Some things just aren't worth the stomach ache.
