Almost got a big fine because of a bad grinder plate

I spent $80 on a cheap grinder plate online and it was warped right out of the box. After one batch of pork shoulder for sausages, the thing started flinging metal shavings into the meat. Caught it just before wrapping for a customer order. Had to toss about 30 pounds of meat because I couldnt be sure it was all clean. Anyone else had luck with a specific brand that holds up better?

Man that is rough. I would have been so mad if I found metal shavings in my pork. Ive been using a LEM grinder for a couple years now and the plate has held up perfect through dozens of batches. Never had any warping or chipping. The cheap Amazon ones are a total gamble. Youre better off spending a bit more upfront than losing 30 pounds of meat.

Yeah that "spend a bit more upfront" thing is exactly it. It's like the whole cheap tool trap. People buy the budget version, it breaks or causes problems, then they end up spending more money and time fixing the mess than if they just bought the decent one first. Seen it with everything from garage jacks to kitchen knives. You got lucky you caught it before it went to a customer though. That would have been way more than 30 pounds of meat lost.
