Had a customer ask for a 'boneless' whole chicken last Friday.

I tried to explain it was not really possible, but they insisted. So, I gave it a shot with my boning knife and a lot of patience, basically making a chicken balloon. It actually worked and they were thrilled, but it took me almost 20 minutes. Anyone ever get a request that made you stop and think?

Is this really a big deal though? It's just a weird chicken request. People ask for strange stuff all the time. You did it, they paid, it's over. Why stress about a 20 minute task from last week?

The chicken was a metaphor for a much bigger problem with that client.

Nah, I gotta push back a little here. That chicken thing wasn't just a weird one-off, it was a test. A client who asks for something that obviously pointless is checking to see if you'll just nod and do it, no questions asked. Once you prove you'll jump through any hoop, they'll keep raising the bar and asking for more and more ridiculous stuff. Next thing you know you're spending three hours on something that should take ten minutes because they've learned they can push you around. Doesn't that kind of pattern just grind your gears over time?
