Question about a stubborn pork shoulder seam

I spent nearly 45 minutes yesterday trying to cleanly separate the picnic from the butt on a single shoulder because the connective tissue was so much tougher than usual, and I'm wondering if anyone else has hit that with certain suppliers or breeds?

Funny how that works, it's like some cuts are just put together with more purpose. You see it in all kinds of stuff now, from tougher packaging to furniture that won't come apart cleanly. Makes you wonder if it's a sign of things being built to last or just built to fight you. That pork seam holding on for dear life feels weirdly familiar because of it.

My last one from the local butcher came apart in like 10 minutes, no sweat. Maybe it was just a weird one you got, or the animal was older.
