Spent $150 on a 'professional' knife sharpener that just wrecked my edge

I mean, it was this electric thing with guides, supposed to be foolproof. It took off way too much metal and left a burr I'm still trying to fix. Anyone have a go-to sharpening service they trust, or should I just stick with my stones?

That "foolproof" electric sharpener claim gets a lot of people. Those guides can't tell if your blade is already thin, so they just grind off the same amount every time. A good sharpening service should check the blade first, but honestly, learning your stones is slower but way more reliable in the long run.

A chef friend calls those sharpeners blade killers.

Shortcuts often cost more time later.
