That knife sharpening stat blew my mind
I read online that most butchers sharpen their knives wrong and lose up to 30% of the blade life. Found it on some knife forum last night, and now I'm second guessing my whole routine. Anyone else ever fact-check their sharpening angle?

Used to just eyeball my angles for years until I actually checked with a guide and realized I was way too steep. A cheap angle finder tool fixed that in like five minutes and my knives stay sharp way longer now. Might be worth grabbing one to see where you're at, it made a huge difference for me.

Nah, I totally disagree. Angle guides are a crutch and honestly they make you worse in the long run. If you can't feel the edge by hand and adjust on the fly, you're not really sharpening, you're just following instructions. I've been doing this for over a decade and never once needed a guide or a tool to tell me what angle I'm at. Your hand and your ears will tell you everything if you pay attention. The moment you rely on a gadget you stop developing that muscle memory. It's like training wheels that never come off.
