Spent 11 days trying to make the butter robot look sad in a meme, turns out the answer was 2 pixels
I make butter robot memes pretty much every night after work, and I got stuck on one where he is staring at a stick of butter with this crushed look on his little face. I kept redrawing the eyes in GIMP and every single version looked angry instead of sad. I tried bigger pupils, tilted the eye down, added a tiny shadow under him, nothing worked. After 11 days of messing with it I zoomed in way too far and saw his eyes were sitting 2 pixels too high in the frame. I nudged them down and suddenly he looked like a guy who just found out the point of everything. Any of you run into the same thing where the fix was so small you felt dumb for missing it?
The "2 pixels too high" thing got me, because I did almost the same dumb dance with a cupcake sticker last month. I spent four nights nudging the mouth around, redrawing the whole thing twice, then moved the eyes down one notch and it finally looked like a sad little pastry instead of a smug one. My husband asked why I was yelling at the laptop and I couldn't even explain it without sounding nuts. Eleven days is rough but at least you got there, and now I want to go zoom in on all my old files to see what else is off by a hair.
