Hot take: I oiled my 12 year old leather boots with kitchen grease and they came back to life
My dad's old work boots sat in his garage in Tacoma for 12 years and the leather was stiff as a board, so I almost tossed them. On a whim I warmed up a spoonful of leftover bacon fat and worked it in with my thumbs, then let them sit overnight. Next morning the leather was soft again and the cracks mostly faded, and I have worn them 4 days a week since March with zero problems. Everyone says you need fancy conditioner but the $0 option worked fine for me. Anyone know if this is actually bad for the leather long term, or did I just save myself $80?
