My $18 thrift store cast iron pan outlasted the $120 nonstick I almost bought instead
Three years ago I stood in a kitchen store in Boise holding a $120 nonstick pan with a nice handle. Fancy coating, felt good, box said 5 year warranty. Right next to it was a beat up cast iron skillet at a thrift shop down the street for $18. I went with the cast iron. The nonstick would be scratched and in a landfill by now, I know it. I strip and re-season the iron twice a year, takes maybe 20 minutes each time, and it cooks eggs better than anything I have tried. My buddy bought that same nonstick model and he is already on his second one. Total spent on my pan so far, $18 plus maybe $6 in oil over 3 years. Curious if anyone here has a thrift store find that beat out a new version of the same thing.
