My $19 chrome book from a Des Moines garage sale got me through 6 years of daily use, then the hinge finally gave out
Picked this thing up back in 2018 at a garage sale near Drake University for $19 because the lady said her kid went to college and left it behind. I used it every single day for work stuff, recipes, and watching old movies, and the battery still held 4 hours until maybe 3 months ago. Then the screen hinge cracked when I closed it a little too hard and the whole screen went dark on one side. I almost tossed it and bought a new one, but a guy at my local repair shop said for $25 he could swap in a used hinge from a dead unit in his parts bin. I said sure, and here I am typing on it right now. It's slow and the keys are shiny smooth, but it does everything I need and I saved myself a few hundred bucks. Has anyone else had good luck fixing a hinge instead of just replacing the whole laptop?
