My drill battery outlasted the tool it was supposed to power

I bought this old Craftsman drill at a garage sale in Dayton for $15, figured I'd use it for a few small jobs around the house. The battery was dead, so I ordered a cheap replacement pack online, and that thing held a charge like a champ for about two years. Then the drill motor started smoking and gave out last week, but that battery still holds a full charge after a day of sitting. Has anyone else had a spare part or battery outlive the actual main tool, and where do you even put a orphan battery like that to use?

You really think that battery is the reliable one here? The drill motor burning out after two years means the tool was already on its last legs, so the battery just outlasted the weakest part, not some quality mismatch. Those old Craftsman motors were never built to run forever, and a cheap battery pack can still push power long after the drill's bearings give up. For the battery, check if it fits another 18v tool you can pick up used for a few bucks, or just sell it online and let someone else deal with it.
