My mechanic in Bakersfield asked me one question about my 22 year old truck and it changed how I shop for everything
I was at Rob's shop off Chester Ave getting the oil changed on my 2003 Tacoma, 287,000 miles and still going, and he asked me why I keep bringing it in every 5,000 miles when most folks stretch it to 10. I said because I want it to outlive me. He laughed and said the guys who get 300k out of a truck are the same guys who read the manual and do the boring stuff on time, every time. It made me think about how I buy everything now. I quit chasing the shiny new version of stuff and started asking one thing: will this still work in ten years if I just do the basic upkeep. Bought a $40 pair of boots instead of the $180 ones with the logo, and I have resoled them twice already. So my question for you folks, what is the one boring maintenance thing you do that everybody else skips?
