Question about the antique bandsaw blade I broke twice in one week

I picked up a 1940s Delta bandsaw at an estate sale in Boise and spent 3 months restoring it, but the blade kept snapping every time I tried to resaw oak. Turns out the lower wheel bearing had a hairline crack that I only found after tearing the whole thing down a second time. So my question is, when does chasing authenticity in old tools cross from smart buying to stubborn sunk cost, and at what dollar amount do you walk away from a restoration that fights you?
