Shoutout to the repair manual that says my 1978 Vitamix needs 2 drops of oil every 6 months, not a new motor
I bought a used Vitamix 3600 at an estate sale in Tucson for $40 about 3 years ago. It came with the original manual, which I finally read cover to cover last week while waiting on a batch of salsa. Buried on page 11 it says to put 2 drops of oil on the motor shaft every 6 months of regular use. That is it. No fancy service plan, no sending it in, just 2 drops twice a year. I called the company to ask if that was still the advice and the rep laughed and said the old metal base units basically outlive the people who buy them. Meanwhile my sister has gone through 3 blenders in 5 years, all plastic gears and sealed motors. I did the math and my $40 unit plus a $6 bottle of oil will probably outlast her next 4 blenders combined. Does anyone else have an old appliance where the manual told you way less maintenance than you expected?
