That $12 sewing machine foot pedal fix saved my 1987 Singer

My mom's old Singer jammed up last month in Boise. The foot pedal started sticking and I almost trashed it. Looked up the part number online and found a guy in Ohio selling the exact replacement for $12 with free shipping. Fifteen minutes with a screwdriver and it runs like the day she got it. Anyone else keep ancient machines alive with cheap parts from random internet sellers?

Saw a forum post last week where someone fixed a 1970s Kenmore with a $5 part from eBay, so this totally tracks. It's wild how these old machines just need one little piece to keep going for another 30 years.
