Update: my 14 year old shop vac finally quit, so I got the autopsy

Last week my trusty 14 year old Rigid shop vac from the Home Depot in Boise just gave up mid-suck. I was cleaning up drywall dust from a bathroom reno and it started smoking like a barbecue. Took the motor housing apart on Saturday out of pure curiosity. Found the carbon brushes were worn down to nubs, totally shot. But everything else, the housing, the cord, the casters, still looked brand new. A $9 brush kit off Amazon showed up yesterday and I had it running again in 20 minutes. That thing has survived two moves, a flooded basement, and my buddy dropping it off a ladder in 2019. Has anyone else here resurrected a dead tool with a cheap part instead of just replacing the whole thing? Worth it or am I just stubborn?
