Am I the only one who shims drawer slides with playing cards?
Had a kitchen job in Boise last month where the drawer slides kept binding about a quarter inch, and no matter how much I tweaked the face frame the gap stayed ugly. I tried plastic shims and they crushed under the screw tension, then a guy at the lumber yard told me to cut up an old deck of cards and stack them behind the slide. Three or four cards gets you right around 0.012 inches each, so it's easy to fine tune without digging through a bin of shims. I shimmed six drawers that way and every one slides like glass now. The paper compresses just a little so it locks in tight when you drive the screw. Has anyone else done this or am I going to find out in a year that it all falls apart?
