DAE measure cabinet depth from the face frame instead of the box? Lost a $400 deposit because of it
Had a client in Reno last week who wanted a 24 inch deep pantry cabinet, and I quoted it based on the box depth like I always do. Turns out she measured her old one from the face frame to the wall, which added almost an inch and a half. She said the new one "stuck out too far" and refused delivery, so I ate the deposit. Now I always ask clients to take a photo with a tape measure against the actual wall. Anyone else run into this, or am I the only one who missed that detail?

That Reno job sounds like a rough one, sorry you had to eat that deposit over an inch and a half. I had a similar thing happen with a bathroom vanity two years back, client measured from the trim to the wall and the new one looked short next to the old one. Face frame overhang is such an easy thing to forget because most folks just run the tape to wherever the wood stops. The photo with the tape against the wall is smart, but I also started asking what they measured from and writing that on the quote so there is no back and forth later. Did she at least pay for the materials before she bailed?
