Hot take: a finisher at the shop told me to stop sanding past 220 and it stuck with me
I was burning through 320 grit on every oak face frame out of pure habit, and he asked why I was polishing wood that's about to get stain and a topcoat anyway. Since I cut it back to 220, I'm saving maybe 4 hours a week in the shop and the finish lays down just as even. Anybody else have a grit they refuse to go past, or do you take it higher for certain woods?
