I finally got my first big drawer front order and the finish bubbled on half of them
It was for a kitchen remodel in Springfield, 12 painted maple drawer fronts. I sprayed them with a water based lacquer in my garage shop, which I've done a hundred times. Two days later, I came back and maybe 6 of them had these tiny bubbles under the surface, like a bad reaction. The humidity was normal, around 50%, and I used the same primer as always. I ended up having to strip and sand them all back to bare wood, which set me back almost a full day. Has anyone else had a finish just decide to fail for no clear reason? Wondering if it was a bad batch of lacquer.

Bad batch of lacquer" is the woodworker's ghost story.

Bad batch of lacquer" is right. I've blamed more than a few of my own screw-ups on haunted finishing supplies. It's a convenient ghost when you sand through a veneer.
