Nail gun depth setting cost me a full week of sanding

For two years I set my finish nailer to the same depth as my framing gun, then got called out on a job in Tacoma when the client ran a hand across every panel and felt every single proud nail head. Turns out I was supposed to adjust per material and per spot, not just crank it once and walk away. Anyone else discover a basic habit they carried way too long after a customer or a boss called it out on site?

My last trim job in Portland ran the same way for years until a painter buddy pointed out the same thing, so I feel you... but honestly I've had better luck trusting my ear and touch over a chart, since every board's got its own soft spots.
