Particle board backs vs plywood backs, I did 14 kitchens in 8 months and the callbacks are telling me something
Back in January I switched my standard base cabinet spec from 1/4 inch plywood backs to 5/8 inch particle board to save about $18 a box, and by June I'd been out to fix sagging shelves in 4 of those jobs. I went back and looked at my notes from the 9 kitchens I built the year before with plywood backs, and I never got a single callback on any of them, not one. So is the particle board actually the problem, or is it my shelf pin drilling that's the real issue and the backs just get blamed for it?
