Pocket screws beat dowels on my face frames every single time
Everybody in my shop keeps pushing dowels for face frames and I just do not get it. Last month I built two identical oak face frames for a kitchen in Akron, one with dowels and glue, one with pocket screws, and the pocket screw one was done in 40 minutes flat while the dowel one ate up my whole morning. The dowel frame came out fine but the pocket screw frame is just as tight and I can pull it apart later if a client wants a change. I get that dowels look cleaner on the inside but nobody is opening that cabinet to inspect my joinery. Am I missing something about why guys stick with dowels or is it just habit at this point?
