Ran into a tricky crown molding corner yesterday...

Tried to figure out an inside corner with a 22 degree spring angle on a vaulted ceiling and after 3 hours of test cuts I finally realized my miter saw was off by 2 degrees, has anyone else found a reliable trick for double checking your saw before you start a big job?

Start every job by cutting a scrap piece at 45 degrees and checking it against a square. I noticed this same pattern with my table saw fence too, always off a hair no matter how careful I thought I was setting it up. It's like tools have a secret mission to humiliate you right when you're feeling confident about the project. That 2 degree swing probably saved you from an even bigger headache halfway through the vaulted ceiling cut. So now I just keep a known good test block in my truck and double check zero before any angle work.

Yeah, that test block would just confirm my saw is out to GET me personally".
