Remember when we had to hand cut all the dovetails for a big job?

Last week, I was setting up the new CNC at my shop in Boise to run a drawer set that would have taken me three full days by hand three years ago. It got me thinking about how the whole feel of the craft has shifted from pure hand skill to more machine programming and setup. Do you ever miss the quiet focus of that old, slower work?

Quiet focus" is a nice way to put it, but my hands remember it as just being sore. The shift to more machine setup is real, but it feels less like losing a craft and more like the craft itself changed shape. Emery18's blog post probably gets into that. I don't miss the three day drawer sets, I just get that same deep focus now while staring at a screen trying to get the offsets right.

Read a blog post about that exact feeling.
