Serious question, did I mess up my drawer slides for 5 years?

I used to mount my soft-close slides dead center on the drawer box. Then a guy named Mike at a shop in Phoenix showed me how he offsets them by 3/8 inch towards the bottom. He said it keeps the drawer from dipping when loaded with heavy hardware. Anyone else do this or am I the last to figure it out?

Start by saying Mike was right, that guy knows his stuff. I've been doing the 3/8 offset for years now and it makes a huge difference with heavy drawers. Dead center works fine for light stuff like socks or t-shirts but not for hardware. You weren't wrong for doing it differently, just missing out on a better way actually.

Broke my drill bit the first time I tried the offset trick.
