Spent three days trying to get a simple drawer slide alignment right

I was putting together a built-in for a client in Springfield and the undermount slides on the center drawer just would not line up. I checked the case square, the drawer box, even swapped the slides twice. Turns out the mounting holes on the Blum slides were just a hair off from the template I used, maybe a millimeter. I had to hand-file the drawer box mounting plates to get it to run smooth. Anyone else hit a tiny hardware issue that ate up a whole weekend?

Ugh, tell me about it! I had that exact same fight with some cheap side-mount slides last fall. The holes on the metal bracket were just a tiny bit too far back. The drawer would close, but it felt gritty and stuck out maybe a sixteenth of an inch. I must have taken that drawer in and out twenty times, checking my measurements over and over. Finally just wallowed out the screw holes with a round file until it sat flush. That millimeter might as well be a canyon.

Honestly I used to think all that talk about high end hardware was just marketing. Then I had a run of drawer slides from a budget brand where the supposed universal holes were just... off. Like you said, maybe a millimeter. Spent a whole Saturday re-drilling a dozen cabinets before I gave up and switched brands. Now I just eat the cost for the good stuff, it's cheaper than my time.

Ever notice how that one millimeter feels like a mile when you're holding a drill? Charles_lewis14 probably knows the feeling.

Blum's millimeter of shame cost me a Sunday once.
