Swapped to Blum soft-close hinges on my last 12 kitchen doors
I had to pick between the $3 generic hinges from the supply house or spend $8 each on Blum 110 degree soft-close hinges. I went with the Blums after a buddy told me he had to go back and replace a full kitchen of cheap ones in 6 months. Took me about 2 hours to swap all 12 doors on a job over in Greenville. The customer noticed the difference right away when they opened a door and it didn't slam. Has anyone else had problems with generic hinges wearing out faster?

Oh man, totally worth it though. Cheap hinges always feel like a gamble.

Pick anything these days and you'll see the same thing happening. Cars, appliances, tools, you name it. The cheap stuff gets you by for a month and then you're fixing it or throwing it away. I bought a budget drill once and the chuck stripped out after three decks. My Makita stuff is still going strong after ten years. People always want to save a few bucks upfront but they end up paying more in time and frustration later on. Same with hinges, same with everything else.
