That one door hinge took me 45 minutes longer than it should have.

I was hanging a set of shaker style doors for a kitchen remodel last week. Got all the cabinets level and square, but one of the hinges just wouldn't sit flush no matter what I did. I ended up taking the door off three times, measuring the setback over and over, before realizing I had the hinge cups swapped left to right. Has anyone else had a brain fart like that where a simple job turns into a puzzle just because you rushed the setup?

You had the hinge cups swapped left to right? Were the offset holes actually labeled on that brand, or did you have to figure that out by trial and error like the rest of us?

Those offset holes were definitely NOT labeled on my brand. Took me three full days of messing with it. I actually marked each hinge with a sharpie after I figured it out. Left side has a specific offset pattern for the cup depth, right side is mirrored. If you swap them, the door sits crooked and won't close flush. I ended up taking photos of the original hinge placement before I pulled anything apart. That saved me. But yeah, trial and error is the only way unless you get really lucky. Most cabinet folks I know just swap them until it looks right.
