Tried a new way to set up my table saw for cutting dados and it was a game changer

I mean, for years I just used a regular blade and made a bunch of passes, which was fine but slow. Last week I finally bought a proper dado stack, the Freud 8-inch set, and the difference is crazy. The cuts are so much cleaner and it took me maybe a quarter of the time to do a whole set of cabinet shelves. Has anyone else made that switch and noticed a big jump in quality?

My first dado attempt looked like a beaver chewed through the plywood. I was using a wobbling blade and a prayer. The Freud stack made it look like I actually know what I'm doing, which is a neat trick. It's embarrassing how long I put off buying one.

I had that same beaver-chewed look on my first three shelves. My wobble dado was so bad I started telling people the tear-out was a "rustic texture." @jade47, the Freud stack is basically cheating in the best way. It turns a messy job into something that looks planned. I wish I hadn't wasted so much time and plywood being stubborn about buying one.

Oh man, @jade47, that Freud stack is like night and day, isn't it?
