Watched a guy in Denver turn a warped oak slab into a perfect countertop with just a hand plane and I got it
Stopped by a small shop in Denver three months ago and the owner was flattening a 6 foot oak slab that had twisted after drying. I figured he would run it through a drum sander for an hour, but he grabbed a No. 7 hand plane and a pair of winding sticks and went at it. He checked those sticks every few passes and after maybe 25 minutes you could see the twist just disappear under the blade. I had been fighting a similar slab in my own garage for two weeks with a router jig, and standing there watching him made me realize I had been skipping the most basic step first. So how do you all deal with twisted stock before it hits the table saw?
