A homeowner in Matthews told me my cable runs looked like spaghetti, so I started using a $12 label maker.

It was a simple install, just a new drop and some wall plates. I thought it was neat enough, but the guy came out to the garage where I'd bundled everything and said, 'Son, that's a bowl of spaghetti back there. How's anyone supposed to know what's what in five years?' He wasn't mad, just matter-of-fact. I bought a basic Brother label maker that afternoon. Now I tag every line at both ends with the room and outlet number. It adds maybe two minutes per job and saves a huge headache later, especially for the next guy. What's your go-to method for keeping a panel tidy?

Straight bundles? That's nuts.

That 100% straight bundle thing is a pain to get right. Did your boss ever actually test the signal loss between a straight bundle and a slightly messy one, or was it just a look thing?

My old boss used to say a clean panel is a happy panel. He'd make us redo any bundle that wasn't perfectly straight, drove me nuts at the time.
