Fiber splice trailer in Knoxville taught me to check the toner first

Back in 2016 I showed up to a job off I-40 in Knoxville, spent 45 minutes tracing a dead drop that turned out to be a bad toner battery, not the line. Since then I keep a spare 9-volt in every truck, costs about a dollar and saves me a whole morning. Anyone else got a dumb equipment failure that made you change your kit?
