Had a chat with an old Bell guy that made me rethink my whole termination setup

He told me he's been using the same cheap Klein crimper for 12 years because he cleans it with contact cleaner every Friday, and I've been buying new tools every 6 months because mine keep jamming up. Anyone else got a simple maintenance trick that saved you hundreds?

Wait, is he using just a standard aerosol contact cleaner or the Deoxit stuff? I've been picking up whatever generic CRC can is on sale, but maybe that's why my Klein still binds up after a few months. I wipe mine down with a rag but never actually hit the pivot points with a spray. Could be the difference between a tool lasting a year versus a decade, but I'm skeptical if the cheap cleaner cuts it for that long.

Man I had the exact same issue with my Klein for a whole year. I was just using the cheap CRC electrical cleaner from Home Depot and spraying it on a rag, never hitting the pivot joint directly. Finally tried the Deoxit D5 after a buddy told me about it, and it was like night and day. My lineman's pliers were binding up after three months of heavy use with the generic stuff, but now I go six months easy with the Deoxit. It really does make a difference if you are cranking on those tools every day.
